About the Committee...

Once upon a time, as long ago as the early 1950’s, a group of members decided to create magical scenes in the market place at Christmas time. When they moved on to the Rotary Club (a necessity when you reach 40!), that club took on the responsibility of securing Christmas trees along the high street.

By this time other groups of local people were forming an official “Christmas Lights Committee”.

The changing face of the town over the years, with more and more legislation together with constantly increasing costs, made it difficult to raise the increasing amount of money needed to fund the celebrations and so regretfully, after many challenging years the then committee resigned en-mass after Christmas 2008.

The New SCLC would like to place on record their thanks and appreciation to anyone that has been involved in the organising and fundraising in any way at all over the years, because these are the people who provided the celebrations when many of us were growing up.
